The program aims to develop in learners the skills necessary to transcribe and produce medical documents involving general terms of human biology, using general medical terminology and that relating to cellular activity, the functions of the human body, movement and the nervous system, and to produce documents of a medical nature. Thus, the graduate will develop the skills necessary to communicate and interact in the workplace, to receive users, to prepare and follow up on their files, to manage medical supplies and to perform accounting operations related to medical procedures.
To properly evaluate one’s interest in the content of the training and the requirements of the trade, by participating in the activities proposed in the situational plan, which cover the following points :
Know the job function and understand the training project.
Know the structure of the health network and satellite organizations.
To demonstrate proficiency, students will transcribe texts using general medical terminology and vocabulary related to cellular activity in the following context:
From recorded dictation of approximately two double-spaced typed pages containing approximately 50 different medical terms.
Using a microcomputer, dictation/transcription software, word processing software, a dictionary of medical terms, CPS, a French language dictionary, and French grammar.
To demonstrate their competence, students must perform operations related to user consultations in the following context :
From written case studies on the reception and follow-up of users with various health problems.
With the help of a microcomputer, file management and appointment scheduling software, legal texts related to the medical field, various documents and forms related to the medical file, a dictionary of medical terms and the CPS.
To demonstrate proficiency, students will transcribe texts using movement and nervous system terminology in the following context:
From two medical documents of approximately two pages each, typed double-spaced, with recorded text containing a total of approximately 50 different terms related to movement and the nervous system.
From recordings containing background noise and dictated by physicians, in a health care setting, dictation/transcription software, a microcomputer, medical terms software, and CPS.
To demonstrate competency, students will perform activities related to the management of medical supplies in the following context:
From a context of inventory and handling of medical supplies, in a situation involving the handling of hazardous products and the risk of contamination by biomedical waste.
Using purchase orders, medical supplies and empty containers of hazardous products.
Acquire the competency to integrate into the workplace, taking into account the requirements of the job, by participating in the activities proposed in the placement plan, which cover the following points :
Become aware of the functions to be performed in a health care facility.
Performing tasks specific to the medical secretariat.
To take stock of one’s training achievements with regard to the requirements of the profession.
To demonstrate proficiency, students will transcribe texts with general human biology terms in the following context :
From a handwritten text approximately three pages in length and containing approximately 50 different general biology terms with usage and spelling difficulties, anatomy, pharmacology, and diagnostic methods terms.
Without lecture notes, using a dictionary of medical terms, an anatomical atlas, the CPS, a French language dictionary and French grammar, a microcomputer and word processing software.
Acquire the competency to interact in the workplace, taking into account the requirements of the trade, by participating in the activities proposed in the situational plan, which cover the following points :
Become aware of the importance of professional ethics and the quality of interpersonal relationships.
Apply approach and stress management techniques specific to the workplace.
Become aware of one’s strengths and limitations in the way one interacts in the workplace.
To demonstrate proficiency, students will transcribe texts using terminology related to human body functions in the following context :
From two medical documents of approximately two pages each, typed double-spaced, with recorded text containing a total of approximately 75 different terms related to human body functions.
From recordings containing background noise and dictated in varying tones and rhythms.
Using a microcomputer, dictation/transcription software, word processing software, a dictionary of medical terms, CPS, a French language dictionary and French grammar.
To demonstrate competency, students will produce medical-related documents in the following context :
From recorded texts of three different medical documents, recordings containing background noise and dictated by physicians, in a health care facility setting, using a microcomputer, dictation/transcription software, word processing software, dictionary of medical terms and CPS, French language dictionary and French grammar, legal texts related to the field of medicine
To demonstrate competency, students will perform accounting operations related to medical procedures in the following context :
Perform paper and computer billing of medical procedures.
Using various documents indicating medical procedures performed by different physicians, medical billing software, a microcomputer, the general practitioner manual, the specialist manual, the diagnostic directory, a dictionary of medical terms, and the CPS.

Eligibility
Holder of a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent (e.g. : attestation of equivalence of schooling) or a higher education diploma, such as a college diploma or bachelor’s degree.
